Privacy policy

This covers theomnicollc.com and the tools we run on it. We've written it to be read rather than to be survived, because a policy nobody finishes is a policy that protects nobody. If something here isn't clear, call and ask.

What we collect when you contact us

The estimate form asks for your name, phone number and email address, and gives you room to describe the project. You can add the property address, and if you arrived from the ADU lookup the jurisdiction comes with you so you don't have to explain it twice. If you tell us whether the project is residential or commercial and tick the kinds of work involved, we keep that too.

Everything past the name, phone and email is optional. Those three we need, because without them we can't answer you. Calling or emailing us directly gives us the same information by a different route.

What the ADU lookup does with an address

The jurisdiction lookup asks for a street, a city and a ZIP. We send those to the United States Census Bureau's public geocoder, which is the service that can tell us the incorporated city an address falls in, or that it falls on unincorporated county land instead. The answer is cached on our server for a day so the same lookup doesn't go out twice.

We don't keep the address as a record about you, and running a lookup doesn't put you on a list. It becomes information we hold only if you go on to send us an enquiry carrying it.

What we collect automatically

Our host records what an ordinary web server records: the page requested, the time, the browser and operating system, and the IP address it came from. That is how a site stays up and how we would see it being attacked.

There is no Google Analytics here, no advertising pixel, no session recording, and no third-party tracker of any kind. There's no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to. If that ever changes, this section changes first.

Cookies

One cookie on the public site. omni_lang remembers whether you're reading in English or Spanish, and holds a language code and nothing else.

Two others exist for tools that aren't part of the public site. omni_gallery and omni_admin are signed sign-in cookies for our private design gallery and our internal portal. You'll only ever carry one if we've given you a password.

Why we hold any of it

• To answer you, work out what the project needs, quote it, and run it if you hire us.
• To keep the records a licensed contractor is required to keep.
• To keep the site up, and to notice if somebody is attacking it.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. If we ever start sending anything you'd call marketing, it will be something you asked for first.

Who else handles it

The list is short on purpose, and this is the whole of it:

Vercel

Hosts the site and holds the server logs.

Supabase

Stores the enquiries sent through the estimate form.

Resend

Delivers the email that tells us an enquiry arrived.

US Census Bureau

Answers the jurisdiction lookup. A public federal service, and it receives the address without anything attached identifying you.

Each one sees only what it needs to do its job, and none of them is permitted to use it for anything else. If we change a provider, this list changes with it.

How long we keep it

An enquiry that becomes a job becomes part of that job's record, and we keep it for as long as contractor law requires and as long as the warranty runs. An enquiry that doesn't become a job we keep while the conversation is live and for a reasonable period after, because people come back a year later with the same project. Server logs roll off on our host's own schedule.

You can ask us to delete yours sooner. That's below.

How it's protected

The site is served over HTTPS throughout. The private tools sit behind passwords, their sessions are signed so they can't be edited on the device they're stored on, and the gallery photographs are served by a route that checks the session rather than sitting in a public folder where a guessed URL would reach them. No system is perfect and we won't pretend otherwise, but nothing here is held casually.

Your rights in California

If you live in California, you can ask us to:

• Tell you what personal information we hold about you, and where it came from.
• Give you a copy of it.
• Correct it, if we've got it wrong.
• Delete it, unless it's something we're required to keep.

Because we don't sell personal information and don't share it for advertising, there's no opt-out to give you: there's nothing to opt out of. Asking costs nothing and we won't treat you any differently for having asked. We'll check it's really you before we act, usually by replying to the phone number or address we already have for you.

Children

This site isn't meant for children and we don't knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we'll delete it.

When this changes

If how we handle any of this changes, we change this page and move the date at the top of it. Something that matters, a new provider or a new kind of collection, gets said plainly here rather than folded quietly into a rewrite.
